Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011 John Galliano. We’re doing presentations in English as part of our language coursework and the teacher is allowing us to to our presentations on anything we want, ideally something we’re passionate about or interested. So, of course, being predictable I’m doing something fashion related, but I wasn’t too sure what. I kept thinking about it for ages throughout the lesson and came up with things like “The Use of Fur” (common debate though) and “Androgyny-why women can dress like men in suits and stuff whilst its weird for men to wear skirts except Marc Jacobs etc”, but I thought they were a bit unfocused ideas. But then when out teacher said the word “controversy”, I automatically knew what I was going to do; John Galliano. And not just John Galliano, but about when he was fired from Dior and the controversy behind that - he is considered one of the best designers of our time, but he said some incredibly offensive things, should he have been fired? etc. Of course I’ll talk about Raf Simons, and whether hiring him was a step in the right direction. I’m pretty fucking excited.
